Whenever I talk to people....at Trade Shows, events, stores where my products are sold....the first thing they always ask is....
How do I get my floors to look perfect?
Specialty floor cleaners are causing build-up on the floors which in turn explains the visual footprints, streaking, dullness, stickiness and the look of still being dirty
Bleach is doing nothing to clean and everything to streak and cause the haze.
Steam is still steam...hot enough to possibly do some damage on the sealant, especially if the machine is not in top notch condition...spewing out too much water can lead to cupping. Streaking is the biggest complaint....some of have said it is because of a previous product residue but that is not true.
When I first ask people, who use vinegar or vinegar products, where they have noticed the hazing on their protected wood floors (the word protected is very important and we will talk about it in a minute) they normally will say they notice it more along the outer edges of a room and less in the middle. "Near windows and doorways", I ask....."Yes", they answer.
Through history of time vinegar was used in battle...to effectively break through large boulders that could not be moved with the help of the sun (these would have been very patient warriors). In the cleaning industry we use it to break through tough mineral deposits left in small appliances and to break through build ups of hard water soap scum as well as grease. So why is it we think it will not break through the protective sealant on our floors?
Laminate and sealed wood floors are installed with a protective shine already....in fact that particular shine was chosen before it was put in the home. You do not need to boost the shine...it's there for the recommended life of the flooring.
Cleaning it is very simple
1. Low traffic areas such as bedrooms and unused rooms need only to have a damp flat mop
2. Normal to high traffic areas a mild liquid detergent for hand washing dishing (not Castile), preferably natural but not necessary. A little squirt in a spray bottle of water will do the trick and change out your flat mop pads frequently (if you are like me and believe in hand washing...a little squirt in a small amount of hot water, changing out the bucket when needed)
Streaking, hazing, dullness, the look of dirty, forever footprints, stickiness....all gone.
Removing the build up from specialty floor products...much harder and that's another conversation
